The Italian regulator does not want to return from summer vacation. We all know that almost everything comes to a standstill in Italy in August. But August is already another two weeks, and Consob has not yet issued a single warning. The last one was on July 27, many weeks ago. Only a summary of other regulators’ warnings has been issued by Consob on September 7. Hello, wake up, please. Sleeping watchdogs are worthless.
The late summer inertia of the Italian financial watchdog is all the more astonishing given that Italy is one of the most important countries for scammers, along with Germany and Spain. The UK FCA, the Spanish CNMV, and the German BaFin have also produced their warnings over the summer. Only Consob has gone on hiatus.
