Japan Launches First Yen-Pegged Stablecoin — Why It Matters for Finance and Regulation

Japan has debuted the world’s first yen-pegged stablecoin, “JPYC,” issued by startup JPYC and fully convertible 1:1 to JPY with reserves held in domestic deposits and Japanese government bonds (JGBs). The issuer targets up to ¥10 trillion (~$66bn) over three years, waiving transaction fees initially and funding operations from JGB interest.
