The U.S. SEC has charged the Solana-based decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Mango Markets with securities violations. As part of the settlement, the scheme will collectively pay nearly $700,000 in penalties. The scheme operators have also agreed to destroy all MNGO tokens, remove MNGO from trading platforms, and cease any attempts to promote or offer MNGO for trading.
Avraham Eisenberg, a 28-year-old resident of Puerto Rico, has been convicted by a federal jury in New York for his involvement in a $110 million cryptocurrency fraud scheme on the Mango Markets decentralized exchange. This case marks the U.S. Department of Justice's first prosecution of cryptocurrency open-market manipulation, involving charges of commodities fraud, commodities market manipulation, and wire fraud.
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed a civil enforcement action charging Avraham Eisenberg with running a fraudulent and manipulative trading scheme on Mango Markets to unlawfully obtain over $110 million in crypto assets from a purported decentralized digital asset exchange. This is the CFTC’s first enforcement action for a fraudulent or manipulative scheme involving trading on a supposed decentralized crypto asset platform. Â
