OpenPayd Faces Regulatory Trouble in Malta After Investor Compensation Ruling!

OpenPayd, a Malta-licensed payment institution long flagged by FinTelegram for its involvement in facilitating high-risk transactions and supporting scam-related financial infrastructure, has now been officially held liable by Malta’s Financial Arbiter. The ruling follows an investigation into a case in which an elderly woman was aggressively manipulated by fraudsters and lost her investment through an account operated via OpenPayd’s virtual IBAN infrastructure.

Malta Appoints Financial Arbiter Who Was Found Guilty 66 Times

Malta can’t stop hurting its own financial services industry. Minister Clyde Caruana has appointed Alfred Mifsud as the Arbiter for financial services. Mifsud, who headed the TV station of the Labour Party, which is currently in Government, was found guilty in 66 cases by the previous financial services Arbiter. Labour stalwart Alfred Mifsud owned Crystal Finance Investments, which mis-sold thousands of products to its victims.

Bank of Valletta’s Chairman Acting As A Consultant To Malta’s Gaming Authority

Bank of Valletta (BOV) is considered Malta’s largest bank. In October 2020, Gordon Cordina was appointed as Chairman of the bank. Presently, 25% of the Bank's equity is held by the Government of Malta, UniCredit S.p.A. holds 10.20%, and the remaining 64.80% is in the hands of the general public. Fintelegram can reveal and publish proof that the BOV Chairman is a co-owner of Malta-registered E-Cubed Consultants Limited. He owns 50% of this company. E-Cubed Consultants has been receiving around €3,500 per month from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) for so-called consultancy services.
