On March 22, 2024, the Italian financial watchdog Consob ordered the blackout of five illegal online trading platforms. The number of websites blocked by Consob orders reached the round figure of 1,047 since July 2019, when the “Decreto crescita” (“Growth Decree”) gave the Italien regulator the power to order ISPs to inhibit access from Italy to websites through which financial services are offered without proper authorization.

The Italian regulator Consob ordered the blackout of 5 illegally operating broker scams. The new order brings the total number of websites blacked out since Consob’s authorization came into effect to 970. Unfortunately, other regulators in the EU do not currently have the authority to have websites blacked out. However, this would definitely be worth considering.
