Italian Consob has returned after the X-Mas break. The regulator made the last warnings and black-out orders on Dec 27 last year. On Jan 17, 2020, the regulator issued the order to black out the websites of five providers of illegal financial services bringing the total number of websites blacked out since July 2019 to 605. It would be desirable if, in 2020, other regulators were authorized by their legislators to issue such black-outs. This would be an important step in the fight against cybercrime and scams.
On 15 November 2021, Italian regulator Consob ordered the black-out of six new sites illegally offering financial services to Italian consumers. Since July 2019, the Italian watchdog has blocked 548 websites for the Italian market. Consob is currently the only European regulator that has this power in regulatory enforcement. It would be desirable if other jurisdictions also gave their regulators such authorization to fight scams more efficiently.
German regulator BaFin has announced an investigation into the Finexo Markets (www.finexomarkets.com) broker scam. The boiler room agents behind the scam claim to have a branch office in Frankfurt. Until a few months ago, the operator listed was Finexo Holdings Ltd, registered in the UK. The scam attacks victims in English, Italian, Spanish, German, and Russian.
