The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced an award of more than $5 million to a whistleblower whose information led to a successful SEC enforcement action.  The whistleblower provided a tip and additional information that helped SEC staff shape its investigative strategy, identify witnesses, and draft documents and information requests. The whistleblower also internally reported concerns before submitting information to the SEC.

FinTelegram, Regulatory Awakening Calls, And The Lessons Learnt!

In April 2020, the Bank of Lithuania, as the competent regulator, revoked the license of Eyal Nachum's Israeli e-money institution Bruc Bond (formerly Moneta International). The revocation was preceded by numerous FinTelegram reports exposing the payment processor's scam-facilitating activities. In October 2020, the Dutch regulator DNB submitted a Payvision report, in which the allegations raised by FinTelegram were apparently confirmed, as the Dutch financial magazine FD notes.

Whistleblower Request – Lithuanian Crypto Payment Processors Mirhax And Conivix!

Lithuanian crypto payment processor Mirhax recently came to our attention as a payment facilitator at the BBanc broker scam (report here). The potential BBanc victims were offered on the scam's payment page to buy cryptos via credit or debit card using Mirhax. These are then transferred to the BBanc scammers' wallets. The BBanc victims are directed to the Mirhax payment page via a referral link. It does not seem to be a deep integration. We would like to know more about Mirhax and the related Conivix scheme.

Whistleblower Request – Who Are The Perpetrators Behind Vanished StakingTrades Broker Scam?

In February 2022, FinTelegram warned against the StakingTrades, allegedly operated by STG CONSULT PLC or STG CAPITAL LIMITED. We have not found this company. Victims can lose their money via the licensed Estonian crypto exchange Oobit. Stay far away, and protect your money and data. Then in May, the German BaFin issued a warning against StakingTrades. Sometime in the last few weeks, the broker scam disappeared with the victims' money. We would like to know who the operators were.

U.S. SEC Amends Whistleblower Rules To Incentivize Whistleblowers

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it adopted two amendments to its whistleblower program's rules. The first rule change allows the Commission to pay whistleblowers for their information and assistance in connection with non-SEC actions in additional circumstances. The second rule affirms the Commission’s authority to consider the dollar amount of a potential award for the limited purpose of increasing an award but not lowering an award.

Whistleblower Complaint Against Twitter May Be Good News For Elon Musk!

Twitter sued Elon Musk on July 12 in Delaware to force him to go through with his $44 billion takeover bid. Musk said he wanted out because the company hadn’t provided the necessary data and information he needed to assess the prevalence of fake or spam accounts on its platform. Musk later countersued, accusing Twitter of fraud for misrepresenting the condition of its business and key metrics about the users on its platform. A new whistleblower complaint against Twitter does not improve the company's position, to say the least.

Don’t Mess With Whistleblowers – Twitter Stock Price Hit By Disclosures!

The Twitter stock was hit today by the news that the company's former head of security, Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, had filed a whistleblower complaint accusing it of failing to protect sensitive user data. Zatko was fired by Twitter in January for what the company claims were poor performance. He was previously the company's head of security, reporting directly to the CEO. Zatko is represented by Whistleblower Aid, which also represented Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.

The first whistleblower who prompted the investigation's opening and provided information on difficult-to-detect violations and will receive an award of approximately $13 million. The second whistleblower submitted important new information during the investigation and will receive an award of more than $3 million.
